Understanding Cellulite Formation
As with many aspects of our health, there is no single cause of cellulite. Multiple factors likely play a role in its development. While we cannot pinpoint one definitive cause, we can identify several contributing factors that are widely believed to influence cellulite formation:
- Gender
- Age
- Total body fat
- Poor diet
- Lack of physical activity
- Slow metabolism
- Hormonal factors
- Dehydration
- Wearing restrictive clothing
The Role of Genetics
While the above factors contribute to cellulite, they are often influenced by genetics. Our hereditary traits, passed down from countless generations of ancestors, play a significant role in determining our body's composition and metabolism. Cellulite, like many other traits, is a result of this natural selection process.
Why is Cellulite More Common in Women?
Gender is a major factor in cellulite formation. The reason lies in the structural differences in the dermatological layer just beneath the skin's surface. In women, fat cells and connective tissue are arranged vertically, creating conditions that make cellulite more visible. In men, however, the tissue forms a criss-cross pattern, which makes them significantly less prone to developing cellulite.
